So I just went and got my transcripts for applications to grad school. Guess how much each copy was. Go ahead. I'll wait a second...

WRONG! It was $20 per copy. Factor in the fact that each school wants two copies and we have a grand total of $140 dollars to apply to 4 schools (UCSD was the only one sane enough to only ask for one... that earns them some points in my book). I need another 12 copies I just couldn't bear it.

Factor in the $12 I had to pay for the luxury of finding out my score to the GRE test and the $6 per call charge to add more score reports with the $15 each for every school you send your score to and soon it's well over $1000 to apply everywhere.

Dammit!

Well where to start with this one. I assume you meant the speed of light in water which is simply c/n = 2.25 x 10^8 m/s, where n is the index of refraction of water (which is 1.3333). I'd hope you were dead if you weren't already ( and had been for the last 500 years).

12/10 is less than Perfect

So many of you have probably been wondering about how can my reviews make any sense since I somewhat routinely score things higher than a 10. Allow me to explain my rubric:

Firstly, you sock cuz you don't understand it. Second, the 10 is really just a kind of a scale height of a score, rather than a maximum. Think of it like this. If the scores for a random population of movies were to expressed as say frequency of score = A exp(-x^2) [scaling to some mean value as its center of course] then 10 would be approximately where the the frequency of the score dropped to a value of exp(-1)*A.

Robert's Review #3: Pathfinder Misleads Me

It's a story about Vikings...

No not those Vikings... Nevermind, let me just start by quoting the back of the DVD case:

"Experience a new world of graphic, hard-core action with this Unrated Extended Edition of Pathfinder - packed with extreme battle footage not shown in theaters, plus an army of kick-ass deleted scenes and special features!"

Got the picture? Good, cuz now I know what I'm in for. A movie with blood flowing and insane , muscle-pumping blood-boiling gore that was too brutal to be seen in theaters. Unrated Gore Even!

No not that kind of gore...

First begin there are a couple of featurettes included with the movie but I cannot begin to call them an army of kick deleted scenes and special features. It also wasn't really that incredibly super-violent. Sure people were killed (I mean heck they were Vikings) but it was not super over the top. Not even the level of 300.

Well let's get on to the review without further ado.

Plot: 1.5/2 Interesting take on an old Native American legend that perhaps has a basis in actual history. However don't let that scare you, there is plenty of action. Good pacing keeps this story moving and interesting. However a little predictable

Originality: 1.5/2 While this is a remake of another film, this is one of the best adaptations of a 1987 Norwegian film I've seen in months. In actuality the story is new and presented in a way that doesn't feel entirely too campy. It was fresh but not groundbreaking.

Actiing: 2/2 Solid acting all around. Plus it had Clancy Brown in it (Lex Luthor from Justice League) who is an all around amazing actor. Although for some reason I don't understand Karl Urban is always in these kind of movies (like in Chronicles of Riddick, Doom, Lord of the Rings, and some others I cant remember [he was also frequently in Hercules an Xena])

Cinematography: 4/2 Wow! Well they actually stunned me. This movie had a feel and it ran through the whole movie. The angles and shots were innovative and made this movie just fun to watch. However without this, the movie would stuggle to be anything. It had an identity that made is pleasure just to watch.

Execution: 2/2 Solid for the reasons listed above. Clean and crisp.

Bonus Points: 1 It gets one for just how awesome they portrayed the Vikings.

Total: 12/10 A solid movie that was pleasure to watch. However it was not the bloodbath it tried to bill itself as. I think it would have had more success if they had billed it as what it was. A movie in a similar vein of 300 (it was even made into a graphic novel) in that it has utterly brilliant stylistic choices, but is vastly lower on the the bloodometer (seen to the right).

All in all very good and worth the watch.

The next movie to be reviewed very well could be one that was so great that the largest image on the back cover is that of a rather drab menu with the caption: "Interactive Menus" scrawled beneath it....

Robert's Reviews #2: Dr. Strange or just Dr. Misunderstood....?

Well, it looks like Marvel Animated Features has done it again, with their recent foray into the Sanctum Santorum of the Sorcerer Supreme, Dr. Strange. (no I did not make all that babbling stuff up, that's what this thing is full of ... and I love it.) So where to begin? How about the beginning?

Well this movie (unlike other previous sock-worthy submissions from the same company) starts you out in the middle of a high powered mage-shadow beast fight that has the fierceness of a Tijuanan cock-fighting ring and the ingenuity of an electrical engineering college kid on crank.

You know what I loved about this movie that I thought was a huge step in the right direction? The exciting battle that appears on the back cover of the box actually occurs during some point of the movie ( You could learn from that Mr. Stark [by the way Mr. Stark is a reference to Tony Stark { Note to the uninitiated: Tony Stark is Iron Man}]).

I do have to admit that I was more interested than I thought I would be in this Dr. Strange flick and was not disappointed. In fact, I dare say this is the best movie about the Sorcerer Supreme ever made, yes I do believe it beat out the 1978 TV movie starring Peter Hooten as Doctor Strange.

So without further ado here's the review....
Plot: 2/2 A solid and interesting story (it even had a couple of twists in it). Good groundwork in the beginning paid dividends towards the end. This is how a comic book movie should be. It doesn't rush the origin story but still delivers and engaging and entertaining storyline

Originality: 2/2 Ok so this wasn't the first (or last) Dr. Strange movie, but the storyline and the interpretation of the Sorcerer Supreme was refreshing and interesting. I especially enjoyed the way how they dealt with how magic worked in the movie (not the accept the unacceptable stuff) but instead I was enjoyed how they gave each character a sphere of influence. A common mistake in this kind of movie is to not put restrictions on the abilities of the characters which leads to an inability to create an interesting and exciting fight scene. One must be able to see that a character is not omnipotent to care about him.

Acting: 2/2 Well everyone was solid and there were no outlandishly bad standouts that detracted. (this is in general the criteria for a 2/2 although superb acting can give bonus points in the lightning round)

Animation: 3/2 Well it was pretty amazing. From the initial fight scene throughout it was of top quality. There were also no severe jarring transitions from CG to drawn images. The character designs were all spectacular reimaginings of what one can only consider awful source material (case in point Dormammu aka ball face). I especially enjoyed the effects for all the crazy magic that was always going on. It was clean, cool, and not over the top. Excellent.

Execution: 2/2 Pretty amazing considering this is a Doctor Strange movie. Excellent development of the characters as well as amazing animation. Overall very well done and completed well.

Bonus Points: 0 Being a movie about Dr. Strange unfortunately forbids me from granting any bonus points for awesomeness. That's unfortunate because it would have deserved them.

Total: 11/10 It was good, really good. Need I say more. It revived my faith in Marvel Animated Features. I haven't looked into it but this might be an entirely different team than the ones that worked on that Iron Man debacle, but if its the same people then kudos for the turn around. If they're new then kudos to Marvel for dropping those other losers.

If you like comics then this is probably a must see. It's better than any of the live-action stuff they've made. Bravo Marvel Animated Features, Bravo.

You'll want to get it for more than just the Video game cinematics it comes with...

Just in time for the Boxing Day rush, there will be a special cross-over (or X-over if you prefer) between this awesome sight and the struggling Lamest Thoughts Ever Blog in a special presentation of the review of Marvel Animated Features Dr. Strange. In much the same vein as Capt. Jean Luc Picard appearing in the first episode of Star Trek Deep Space 9, or Worf appearing in Star Trek Deep Space 9, or 7 of 9 appearing in Star Trek Voyager, (or Worf permanently appearing in Star Trek Deep Space 9, or William Shatner appearing in the Blockbuster Star Trek: Generations , or the one episode where the USS Enterprise visited Deep Space 9 and that stupid genetically enhanced doctor named Julian helps out Geordi with some garbage in Engineering for some reason and Data started getting some dreams with this crow and he paints all this stuff [also a blacksmith] and it turns out to be his father), this site will bail out Machievelli's lame site.

So keep your eyes peeled and stay tuned...

(As a side note, the DOOM movie review that you've all been anticipating will be delayed indefinitely for technical God Mode related reasons.)

Robert's Reviews #1 : The Impotent Iron Man?

To start things off let's begin with a special Comic-Con exclusive sneak peak review of Marvel Animated Features' Invincible Iron Man.

Let me just save us all some time and begin with this statement.
Throughout the agonizing and plot-hole ridden 83 minutes of this cinematic abortion filled with nothing by bad acting and what can only be considered sloppy workmanship ( I mean I wouldn't sit in chair made like this for fear of my life), nothing even remotely as interesting or well-thought out as what appears on the back cover of this box occurs during this movie. There is no climatic fight sequence, no climax, no buildup, nothing really except for the feeling you've lost an hour and a half of your life and that you feel as dirty and shameful as if you were dragged through 3 feet of raw sewage throughout the entire course of your career as a custodian at a strip club.

Plot: 0/2 Well, where to start, really... Despite chronal anomalies that would give even Gene Roddenberry fits, there really is not much of a plot (such as building an entire suit of armor and what appears to be at most a couple of hours with basically a hammer and some sheet metal). Some nonsense about some ancient prophecy (which seems just like an excuse for some eye candy fights) not much really happens and what does happen shouldn't have happened. This would have made a better movie, just a black screen. Then maybe I wouldn't have been fooled into dropped $15 on this piece of garbage.

Originality: 0.25/2 Well, this isn't the first Iron Man Movie or the last . At least it was a story I hadn't heard before (even if it was hackneyed). Although it involved the Mandarin who was basically his sole enemy in the '90s cartoon. It's hard to believe.

Acting: 1/2 To be honest there was nothing great nor nothing particularly bad. Totally Mediocre.

Animation: 1.5/2 Well, it looked nice except for the somewhat shabby transitions between obvious drawn and obviously CG scenes and characters. That's a pretty big pet peeve of mine. But that isn't the animation quality's fault, just a lack of taste.

Execution: 0/2 Well first of all who allowed this non-story to be made into a movie. Let's get something straight. I love some terrible, arguably some of the worst, movies ever made but this suffers from what can only be described just not being quite a movie. Perhaps it is Parts 1-3 of a four part episode of Iron Man the cartoon show but this is just not complete. The special effects were as described before poorly sown together (like a jacket I tried to make once out of legos). At least I don't seem to remember anything memorably bad or good about the music.

Bonus Points: 0 Being a movie about Iron Man, this movie is not eligible for these bonus points.

Total: 2.75/10 One of the worst movies I've seen I can't believe I bought this the week it came out. I was so excited and looked forward to this junk. If only marvel would put this kind of money into a solid animated x-men feature or a new tv show. It took what seemed to be a good franchise at Marvel Animated Features (which made some pretty solid Ultimate Avengers movies) and has managed to drag down my expectations for the upcoming Doctor Strange movie about everyone's favorite arrogant neurosurgeon.

I'm afraid I'll have to give this Robert's Sock of the Month.

This Stuff is Worth Money?!

So I was playing my castlevania game on gameboy and considered purchasing the ps1 game castlevania:symphony of the night, only to find it was running about $60 on ebay and amazon. This encouraged my to look into some other rpgs that I actually own and determine their values. Here is a list of games I know I own and how much they have sold for on ebay

1. Final Fantasy VII $80 (VIII and IX each I think were about 40)
2. Brigandine $ 65-80
3. Suikoden $56
4. Xenogears $40 (I think my copy has a $8 price tag on it from The Wherehouse)

So I considering I will most likely never play any of these games (and in general I got them all used for less than $10 (except the final fantasies) I think these were a good investment.

In other news I haven't been up to too much. My finals and grades all went well. I'm rather pleased (and if I'm pleased that means something).

Right now I'm working up at the lab again, but this time I'm a lot more dedicated because I know this is my last chance to do research before I apply for grad schools. I've got a lot of stuff going on but it should all work out.

I hereby suggest that Mike Nolan has been cheating by spending extra time in a timeless dimension immediately adjacent to ours. So I've been working on my Final Project for my Physics Lab Class and that has taken up just about all of my time. Sorry about that.

In other news, it looks like the 49ers finally have some a full team with even a little depth with the following Quality reasonable to be starting players:

6 linebackers[Willis, Smith, J. Moore, B. Moore, Lawson, Banta-Cain]

4 Cornerbacks [Clements, Harris, Spencer, Brown]

3 Safeties [Roman, K. Lewis, M. Lewis]

2.5 Defensive Linemen [Young, McDonald, Franklin] (Young counts as a half because he's so old, see picture to the right)

5 Offensive linemen [Jennings, Allen, Staley, Smiley, Snyder]

.75 RB [Gore] Too injury Prone to be considered safe with no real backup. Breathtaking as long as he stays healthy

1.5 QB [Alex Smith, Dilfer]

1 TE [Vernon Davis]

4 recievers [Lelie, Jackson, Battle, Hill]

1 FB [Norris]

2 Sp Teams [Nedney, Lee]

This is a SOLID starting group with plenty of room for rotations in the Linebacker and Reciever positions. The 49ers have the best secondary they've had in a decade and it looks like they could have a serious chance of winning the most competitive division in the West and in the NFC, the NFC West...

P.S. Has anyone grabbed David Ball yet?

P.P.S. Who is returning kicks for us? That I think is our current worst position and could end up biting us in the end.

Stolen Horse Drives Meachem to Greatness, Madness

Here are some excerpts from a story about Robert Meachem. (Read the Whole Story)

“I played running back when I was little and my dad actually used to throw me in the ring with the bulls to see how fast I could run,” said Meachem. “They’d come at me and throw their head and I’d take off, but then they really didn’t try to chase me too hard. It’s much better making a defender miss. That might be the best feeling in the world when you are on the field.”

"As a kid growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Meachem had plenty of farm animals to keep him company including his best friend, a horse named Little Man.

Revised Draft Needs

What do the 49ers really need?
3 things (arguably in this order):

1) Defensive Line
You need a stout line to run a 3-4. For 2 years Nolan has wanted to run this type of Defense but has been unable to because of Terry Donahue's undersized linemen. However they picked up Franklin at DT which could prove to be an excellent choice because it means that they don't absolutely have to take a lineman at #11. However they could really use Carriker/Anderson (later round Alama Francis) or Branch/ Harell.

2) WR
I have to say is that WR would be a bad choice for the 11 pick since all the receivers would be a reach at that point and to be honest there are plenty of good picks in 2nd and 3rd rounds. Plus we did add Lelie for a reason and if Vernon Davis steps up we might not have as large of need.

3) Middle Linebacker
Derek Smith may have led the team in tackles for a while, but he just isn't the type of explosive sideline to sideline player I would like to see playing for the 49ers in that position. I would like to see them pick Willis/ Harris/ Poluszny or later perhaps a Zak DeOssie

What would be nice to have?
1) Backup Running Back (splitting carries with Gore)
Maybe Jackie Battle
2) Offensive Line Depth/ Pass Protection
Ugoh/ Sears

Willis and Carriker? It Could Happen...

A quick review of the 100 or so mock drafts posted by reputable sites on thefootballexpert.com suggest that if the 49ers don't pick Carriker, he won't be picked until after the 20th. This suggests two things: 1) Carriker would be a reach 2) A draft day trade on order of last years could give them both

And if Carriker isn't there, how about Spencer or Harrell.

With a 10th and a 20 something pick they could do the following picks:

Willis, Carriker/ Spencer/ Harrell/Okoye

Branch, Harris/ Carriker/ Spencer

I'm not saying they should, but it is a possibility and with 10 picks, I hope the 9ers don't pick 10 players.

After much deliberation I have come up with what I consider an ideal 49ers draft class. This is just a preliminary list, expect some changes.

Round 1:
Patrick Willis ILB
He is the kind of game changing, sideline to sideline player that we need to step up in a few years and shake this defense into something to be feared.

Round 2:
Sidney Rice WR

It's moves like this that makes me glad I'm an astronomer (the term for fans of the Frankfurt Galaxy for all you ignoramuses out there). I would normally ignore moves by a team in a "B" league like the NFL, but I had to take notice because I feel this could be a huge mistake. While I agreed with the signing of Nate Clements as a CB even though he became the highest paid defensive player and history and even though modern pass interference rules render the idea of a shut down corner extinct, I just had to take arms against their newest and most expensive acquisition. He is the first player from the second best NFL leage (after NFL Europa), NFL U.R.A.M. (Pictured Right)

I mean just look at his holding of the ball, that needs more work than Tiki Barber did. Also he wasn't signed to any particular position and that has me worried cuz this guy doesn't look like a Zarnall Fitch to me. Also I'm not quite exactly sure how his helmet is on. It doesn't quite make sense to me.

It was especially disturbing considering how incredibly injury prone this new player is. To the left is a picture that was taken after his first day of workouts with the 49ers. Oy! This could be a long season. But on the other hand, this could be the start of something special, like the emergence of many African American stars in the NFL. Sounds crazy, but it just might happen.

New Favorite Football Team

I've decided to abandon my previous favorite teams of The SF 49ers and teh CAL Bears in order to make room (and save money to buy tons of jerseys) for my new favorite. A lot of people might question what sparked such a change of opinion, but there were many factors. One is I would like to one day be an astronomer and after watching this team secure its Fourth World Championship, it was obvious that I would have to choose them.

That's right, I've chosen the Frankfurt Galaxy for all my future sporting needs. They have a long and beautiful history. Being first coached by Jack Elway (whose son oddly enough became a quarterback for that other football league)

They're set up to start a dynasty. If only they could get another quarterback of the skill of Jack Delhomme who "Along with Pat Barnes, he was part of the "double-headed quarterback monster" that led the Galaxy to a World Bowl victory over the Barcelona Dragons."[Wikipedia].

To quote wikipedia: "With soccer being the traditionally popular sport in Europe and American Football being a relative newcomer, the rules were changed slightly to encourage a greater element of kicking which was intended to make the game more enjoyable for soccer and rugby fans. Yes, I all know what you're thinking; how could they possibly only lose 5 games, well you see the new additions to the defense and the new wide receiver deep throats that they picked up will to fill in all the holes that they had last season. So there are a lot of Reasons why I think Obama can win. First of all being a Tarkatan Warrior has its advantages. Some say he's young, but he has experience. Living in Outworld, he aided Shujinko in gathering the Kamidogou, ancient powerful artifacts that the Dragon King tricked Shujinko into gathering for him. Despite this deception, Obama was able to benefit from the endeavor in that he learned many of the techniques that make his current fighting style so unique and successful. Everything from eye gouging to vicious limb removal has all been added to this Kombatant's repertoire. Will he be able to overcome the aged old Shang McCain or Sen. Sonya Clinton? I think so and with weapons like his, who needs an army.

Yes, I know I'm spoiling you with my delicious bloginess, but I do it because I love you so much so let's begin with what will invariably be another comedic masterpiece that will have everyone rolling in the aisles and declaring my their king (trust me that whole monarchy thing is coming back into style and when it does, these bell bottoms are going to look awesome)

So long story short about an update on what I've been up to, I found out that a bunch of circuit stuff stuck together with some complicated equations and Microsoft Excel combine to make a radio or something equally lame that would have made a guy from the 19th century crap his pants. Unfortunately for me, this is all just a lot of hard work and my pants remain clean.

Aside from that I've got some midterms coming up which is always a riot (not in the colloquial sense) and now on to the good part of the blog, the part with all the good jokes in it:

1. This list sucks, in fact all lists suck. Show me a list and I'll show you an object that sucks (except shopping lists, those are useful. You wouldn't want to be without one or else you'd be listless).

2. Yes I just made not one, but two list jokes. Kinda sad huh? To cheer you back up think of a blind cat walking off a bridge.

3. That one was uncalled for and ridiculous, cats rarely have occasion to use bridges and when they do they tend to be crappy ones that their owners built for them. Damn spoiled cats, no one ever goes and builds bridges for me to use.

Robert's Rule #2: Anyone who is caught dressing their animals in clothing is to be shot and have all their money taken away because they obviously don't know what to do with it. In fact, we might as well wipe out all of Orange County for that matter.

When Do I Update?

Short answer: When I should be writing my history paper. I'm supposed to be working on my paper for my antebellum history class but today I'm just exhausted. I've pulled a lot of long days this and last week and I just can't get motivated to write this paper even though it is only 500 words. It's pathetic I know but I'm just having difficulty getting started. So instead of working on that I'll fill you in with what I've been up to.

Well first of all I've been working a lot on various physics stuff and am struggling trying to find enough time to do anything. I'm going to have to work some stuff out but here's a quick synopsis of what I've been up to:

1. I underwent some exhaustive medical procedures to imbue me with the powers of the ant because let's face it ant's could totally get a lot of sugar then.... PROFIT!

2. I went and got a job at 7-11 unfortunately I found out that contrary to the name of the store they don't sell any July 11th related merchandise. Also no porn.

3. I went to school and took a bunch of tests, luckily they all came back negative all though I didn't think you could get that kind of score on a math test.

4. That previous one was obviously false, I'm not taking any math this semester.

5. However I did find out I am on the fast track to becoming the next marketing spokesman for Quizno's. To combat Jared who lost weight, they're using me to show how someone can gain a lot of weight eating their sandwiches. (PS that wasn't a joke, jokes are funny)

6. I made a list of things that I did recently and added them to my blog.

7. The list continued into the future where it mentioned an unfortunately embarrassing encounter between myself and a sea otter.

8. Also Porcupines, those guys have no sense of humor, just spines.

How long does it take to make do a lab?

Well here it is!

A lot to talk about so where should I get started. Chronologically probably makes the most sense.

My finals turned out to go well (very well in the case of Electromagnetism). I proceeded to spend my all too short Winter break finishing off Marvel Ultimate Alliance followed by Champions: Return to arms. Both of which were good games, although the former was a little disappointingly devoid of a story or a reasonable length. I was also busy tying up some loose ends with Christmas shopping and after that I relaxed and on the 26th got Mortal Kombat Armageddon which was a surpassed my expectations. I also got two other games: Barbarians (which I haven't decided if I like yet) and a Crash Bandicoot racing (which is very disappointing). It seems like this was a lot of games and to be honest it was. I played way too much. the 3rd and 4th I went up to Berkeley to get my poster ready for the American Astronomical Society conference and it was a big mess because my computer was in the shop. (it's back now though an Best Buy is very good with their warranties) On January 5th I went to Seattle to go to the AAS conference which had all sorts of neat astronomy stuff. I got to present my poster and it went over very well with many people interested in my project and asking if I could do some similar work for them (which I will do as soon as I receive their emails). That conference lasted until the 10th at which point I came home. After that, not much happened, just some games of Trivial Pursuit and before I knew it, I had to go back to school.

Well today was my first day and I walked into class not entirely prepared for what has been a hectic day. It turns out that I have a rather sizable homework assignment today and a long lab tomorrow. After that I should be able to get on top of things. This was just particularly bad because I have to do it tonight (I hate doing things the night before). Oh well. It will have to work out one way or the other. I had a long to do list for today but very little of it got done because of this hw.

That's it except I got hooked on Quizno's which isn't so bad if you have the right coupons but ridiculous if you don't. I also finished a great book entitle "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman" which was also really good.

I guess that's all I've got.

Electrodynamics Final

This time however, I wasn't nervous at all, in fact I was rather confident and looking forward to the test. This is in stark contrast to my usual pre-test m.o. as long time readers know. Oh well. That's the update for now. I have to go do quantum homework.

I’m pretty sure that there would never be such a blatant program in the United States. For one thing, the United States is absolutely obsessed with the idea of maintaining sex as a taboo. This can be seen in the way how the government educates its citizens about sex: only promoting abstinence only programs despite their lack of effectiveness. The major political issues of the past few elections have been gay-marriage and abortion, two sex-related issues that affect few people and have little or no impact on the actual day to day lives of a huge majority of the population. Voters don’t turn out to vote for their legislators, but they will turn out in droves to turn down these measures. We are in a weird Puritanical culture that only has comparisons with countries in the Middle East. It’s not an issue of Christianity or even fundamentalism. In Europe, you don’t see anything like this. Portugal, which is where my family is from and a place I’ve visited many times, is a country that is nearly entirely catholic yet they have few of the hang-ups that you see in America. It is not uncommon to see nude people on television, in commercials, movies, or on beaches at just about anytime during the day.

This is part of the Puritanical idea of denying any pleasures but in fact it only leads to greater disturbances and more bizarre behavior. Shoving sexuality to the dark regions of what is dirty in our society has had little effect on preventing teenage pregnancies or pedophilia. In fact it has been shown that the shame regarding sexuality has led to decreased use of contraceptives of teenagers which has only worsened the problem. To me this is all completely insane. I have a lot of problems with the way how this whole issue is treated in our society. For instance, I don’t think that parents should be able to keep their children out of sex education classes if they don’t want their child to participate. It think that it is the government’s role to educate its citizens and it is absolutely in societies best interest if children are able to learn outside of the box that their parents want to keep them in. If this didn’t happen there would never be any progress. For this reason, I think that home-schooling for any non-special needs child should be outlawed. All this breeds is a lack of free thought and encouragement of the sheep-like following of some particular tenants. In reality, any rational person would see that even if they were not in favor of gay-marriage, it doesn’t really affect them and it is only irrational thought, which currently is mainly being perpetuated by right-wing religious groups, that is keeping this country from finally stepping out of its discriminatory history. The only dangerous thing is I don’t know who I would trust to determine what is taught in schools.

The most dangerous thing imaginable is someone that is brainwashed, because someone who simply follows the doctrine of a religion without thinking isn’t someone that is faithful, it is someone that is already dead. Hence it is no surprise many are willing to commit suicide to promote their ideas in the Middle East. This is an issue that spans all cultures and all religions and one that needs to be addressed.

In this particular case in Brazil, it is a little questionable that the stance of the government shifted. Either sex is a human right that should be covered by health insurance or it isn’t. One can’t say that people have a right to have sex but only with their partner. It is the person’s choice and not the government’s. It seems that this type of medication could only reasonable be given if it was viewed in that way. It can’t just be seen as a way of giving an opiate to its elderly people or else what is keeping them from moving on and actually giving them actual drugs.

So I've been pretty busy lately. Sorry for the total lack of updates. Sigh... I've just been too busy. To sum up what has happened lately, I had my midterms and got them back and did pretty well on them. I feel like I've definitely chosen the right major. I love it and apparently I'm pretty good at it. Other than that, the only other news is that we got Marvel Ultimate Alliance which is an amazing game. I highly recommend it. If you liked X-men legends or the champions of Norrath series then you will love this game. It does have some flaws but altogether it is a really well put together game. I guess I don't have too much else to say, except that you should all go here. It's my brother's blog and infinitely better than mine.

I've been pretty inundated with work. This semester has kind of hit me like a Mack truck. I have by far the most homework I've ever had in my life. I barely get a chance to stop and rest at all. I'm almost constantly working during the week. Luckily I've been able to maintain my weekends, but to be honest I'm wiped out by then. Oh well, that’s why I haven’t written anything for a while not even on Rexum (although I’m still thinking about stuff in my head [In fact my recent reading of Jared Diamonds Guns, Germs, and Steel has helped me to figure some stuff out for Rexum.]) I don’t mean to complain, just explain. To be honest I wasn’t really expecting anything different than what I have right now, I was just hoping for better. Oh well. Best wishes to everyone!

On September 4 Steve Irwin, a.k.a. The Crocodile Hunter, was killed in a freak accident involving a stingray. Mr. Irwin was a great man that my brother and I both greatly admired and looked up to. His unending enthusiasm served as testament to the definition of passion. His work inspired me more than I can possibly describe or explain. I really can't describe why a man I've never met is so important to me but he was very influential on my life. I send my thoughts and prayers to his wife and two young children. A great man and a member of my short list of heroes died far too young and I will mourn him for years to come...

New Semester New (Something That Rhymes With Semester, Possibly Chinmester)

So its a new semester and I've already started my classes. So far things have gone pretty well and I'm likeing my classes. In a way it seems almost as if this semester's classes might be easier because it seems like they are lower pressure and the class sizes are also a lot smaller. So not too much new. I'll be sure to try to update more often now, but for now I'm going to sleep.

A Discovery

Sorry for the lack of updates on this and my other webpage but I've been pretty busy running around between doing work and cleaning up the house for a get together of my dad's friends. It's been a big mess but I have an announcemnt. I actually found something in my search. I didn't find any double WD binaries but I did find 2 WD + M star binaries. I have the spectra and plan to post them up here when I can figure out exactly how to do that. (they come in .eps format and I currently don't have anything that can convert that to a gif or a jpeg). Oh well. It was big news for me and it was nice to see I had accomplished something as my day was winding down. Now I have to right a paper and learn all about how to use this thing called LaTeX which is pretty intuitive but making tables is a real pain. Oh well. Talk to you later!

An Update!

So I couldn't come up with a snazzy title, so sue me.... Please don't. After that exclamation point thing I've already got a few suits on me and in this heat it’s unbearable. You ask why don't I just take them off, well then I have two responses for you: 1) It's the law, I can't and 2) I have to keep myself modest.

So what have I been up to? Well this weekend I got together with some friends on Saturday and then went and saw A Scanner Darkly on Saturday with Zac and Paul. It was pretty good and enjoyable but nothing spectacular. Other than that most of my free time went to Champions of Norrath which is a pretty amazing game. If only they made more RPG's 4 player! Oh well. I've been pretty productive at work today if I do say so myself ( I JUST DID!!!!) and I even got a chance to shoot the breeze a little with my boss today about some politics stuff. Considering how incredibly awkward I am in all social situations, I was glad to have a good conversation with him. I really like my boss and I hope he likes me but it's hard to tell sometimes. Oh well! So I also have been working on Rexum and am planning a new update and have even been throwing around an idea for a new little story to break the monotony of the whole Risenno thing. So I guess that's it for now. See you next time.

I Didn't Piss Anyone Off?!

I was really hoping I would get someone riled up with that last post, at least enough to leave a comment if not a flaming epithet. Oh well. In other news, what am I up to today? Well not too much. I went to work and came home and watched less than an hour of TV while I ate dinner. Then I got to work on my Rexum story and before I knew it I was writing this blog! I just had to after I stopped by Michael's blog and found out that there is a DRAGONLANCE MOVIE COMING OUT!!! As evidenced by my use of caps and three, count 'em, three exclamation points. Even though it is only animated, I am very happy about it. Especially since I think the director is the same one as from the 90's X-men cartoon I watched as a kid that was very faithful to the comics which I hope means a faithful translation of the book to the big screen. So I know where I'll be Autumn 2007, Watching Dragon's of Autumn Twilight.... teehee

What was I doing today? PLUS: Some Incendiary Comments

So I went to work today and my boss was away at Apache point and ironcially enough I had one of my most productive days because I had a couple of break throughs. Oh well. I also went to an ergonomics class that was a lot more interesting than I thought it was going to be. I actually enjoyed it. I then went home and watched about half an hour of tv while I made/ate dinner to unwind a little bit before I got to work on my Rexum story. What I worked on isn't up to snuff yet so it probably won't be posted until tomorrow at the earliest. That took a couple of hours cuz I got a little stuck. Then I helped Clarence with some Math stuff and before I knew it it was 9 o'clock and I was calling home to see what everyone was up to. Not much exciting except something to do with captain crunch.

So this weekend, my brother had a birthday party which as always is a lot of fun. Everyone came over and it just seemed like I didn't have enought time to spend with everyone, that always happens when you have such a great family! So during the party Paul passed around a birthday card which I feel I need to address in this blog. It seemed to promote a theory that perhaps I am a robot, which to anyone who has performed surgery on me knows is false. Also there was some mention of a giant apricot and some other things I don't care to mention... So I guess that's all except for the fact that Zinedine Zidane in a complete act of classlessness headbutted an Italian defender because he called his sister a whore [translation of lipreading from Globo], which is bad but come on the job of the defender is to get in his head. Whatever, the French played like a bunch of goons and the only goals they scored in the last two games were penalty kicks that were the results of bad calls from refs not recognizing dives. By the way, diving in soccer is CHEATING! no matter who does it Portuguese, Dutch, French, or English. It's all cheating. Although Portugal has gotten a bit of a bad rap lately due to French PR who tried to condition people to believe that they were a bunch of divers but to be honest let me give a quick recap of who dove the most. It's really just a few key players who should have their names in infamy as the cheaters they are: Henry, Zidane, Podolski, Christiano Ronaldo (although only about half as much as people like to think he does and by the way he is on my team and I recognize this). I would like to interject in here the entire Dutch team which played the most brutal soccer this cup has seen. They knew they couldn't outplay Portugal so they just played the ugliest and by far dirtiest soccer I've ever seen with everything from trying to injure Cristiano Ronaldo from minute one, to refusing to play by fair play rules when a Portuguese player was injured. In my humble opinion they should be forbidden from the next world cup as a disciplinary measure for their atrocious behavior in the cup. Also as far as disciplinary measures, Zidane should be stripped of his Golden Ball from this cup and I hope that in fact if the refs didnt see that call, the stadium showed it on the big screen(even though they weren't supposed to). I also think the French coach is the biggest jack ass in the entire cup who can kiss my astrology disbelieving ass. Oh well, that's my tirade for now because I have to go to sleep but as a quick recap: the French and Dutch should be forbidden from the next cup! Note these comments say nothing of the French or Dutch people only of the horrific performance of their players both on and off the field since both teams had players speaking far more inflammatory comments than any in this post. I hope I didn't upset any of you Dutch fans out there since I know a few read this, but that's just how I saw it. Also keep in mind, my opinion is meaningless and has no effect on anything and by now I've already put the cup behind me. I'm just glad that Zidane tarnished his reputation and that he didn't get by with people being mistaken that he was a gentleman. I needed at least one good World Cup rant.
